Conference Theme
Our theme for SubOptic 2010 is "enabling the next generation of networks & services".
We will focus on the future of the industry, but we also welcome and encourage papers and posters which look at the enormous hive of activity in the industry since the last SubOptic conference in Baltimore in 2007.
Who Should Attend SubOptic?
SubOptic is the place for everybody from our community, ranging from Presidents, CEO, COO, CFO, CTO&CIO and directors, managers, to junior engineers.

In addition, Suboptic attracts Survey consultants, Marine maintenance providers, Cable protect organization and people from Gas & Oil sector.
Program
The SubOptic 2010 program builds on programs of the very successful prior conferences.
The program for 2010 will include:
- 8 ~ 10 MasterClass Tutorials
- 50 ~ 60 Oral Presentations
- 30 ~ 40 Poster Presentations
- Roundtable Sessions
- International Keynote Speakers
The MasterClass Tutorials which are open to all conference registrants at no additional charge.
A Welcome Ceremony will be held in the evening - this is always an enjoyable networking occasion. The opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday morning, followed by a Keynote Speaker, a Round Table plenary session, and Paper Presentations.
The seven broad topic areas selected for SubOptic 2010 cover all commercial and technical aspects of undersea cables systems. They are:

MasterClass Tutorials
The MasterClass Tutorials are open to attendance by most registrant of SubOptic 2010 at no additional cost. The Program Committee is currently considering MasterClass Tutorials on the following subjects:

- Environmental Impact Assessments & Analysis
- Ocean Science and Sensor Applications
- Standard Supply Contract Guidelines
- Market Statistics / Market Analysis
- Undersea System Business Cases and Business Plans
- UNCLOS Regulations & Permitting
- Evolution & Viability of 40 Gb/s & 100 Gb/s Systems
- Economiv & Social Program of Network Outages
- Financing of Submarine Cable Systems
- Cloud Computing - and Introduction
We welcome further suggestions or offers to present further tutorials, and will try to be flexible until as late a stage as possible. If the ideas are considered appropriate, and if the schedule and space allow, we may still be able to increase the number of tutorials.
Round Table Sessions
The Program Committee is considering a number of interesting options for the plenary Round-Table sessions at SubOptic 2010. Further details will be published in the Preliminary Program, however you can be sure to find the Round Tables interesting and valuable. We expect to include content on topics such as:
- the medium and long-term industry directions
- keeping the industry vigorous in the coming 3 ~ 5 years
- living through the inevitable boom & bust cycles
- supplier & purchaser roles & responsibilities
- impacts of new technologies such as 40 G and 100G, cloud computing, FTTH, etc
Paper Presentations & Poster Presentations
The formal Call for Papers for SubOptic 2010 was issued in April 2009, and can be found on the SubOptic 2010 web page. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 September 2009.
Details of the format and other requirements for the abstracts / executive summaries, together with instructions on how to submit and abstract can be found in the Call for Papers on the web page or the printed version of the Call for Papers.
Under the guidance of the SubOptic 2010 Program Committee, multi- company panels of industry experts will review all abstracts in an objective and professional manner, and select those which are desired for presentation at the conference. Authors will be notified by email by 15 November 2009 of the committee's decision, and if an abstract is accepted for presentation, the author will be required to submit a three to five page paper, written in English, to the SubOptic 2010 Program Committee (via the website) by 31 January 2010.
Accepted papers and posters will be published in the conference proceeding on CD-ROM, and will be available on the SubOptic Web page in the future, contingent upon the transfer of the copyright to the SubOptic Executive Committee.
Social & Networking Program
SubOptic 2010 provides great opportunities to network with top players from our industry or other industry from around the world.
On Tuesday evening, 11 May Welcome reception will take place after the official opening of Exhibition. This would be a first opportunity to meet Exhibitors, old friends or colleagues with cocktails and hors-d’oeuvres served.
One of main events of our conference is Poster Session & Cocktails where Poster papers will be presented interactively. Cocktails will be served as you meet the authors and discuss the papers.
The traditional Closing Gala Dinner will be held at Osanbashi Hall on Friday evening, 14 May.
Wednesday and Thursday evenings will be free for functions organized by conference participants or for personal free time.
